In my 2023 trip, Gulabi told me Westfield has left San Francisco so I can only visit the westfield mall at LA. My senior director at that time also recommended visiting the mall, along with with one of my favourite YouTuber Kieun Choi. Of course I have to visit it and wow, they did not disappoint!
I had dinner with Gulabi and Revathi at the Eatly restaurant which Gulabi recommended. It is like fine dining place and the portion size is rather small for the price.
The ice cream is quite nice even though it is quite expensive.
They also had their Christmas decorations at the mall since I went there during the Christmas season. Well, I did not expect to see cactus again…

I visited The Getty museum in this trip since I didn’t have time to visit it in my last trip. I had take Uber to get there then have to take a train ticket get up the peak where The Getty museum is located at. Going back was a pain as both Gulabi and I struggled to book an Uber back. We also saw several folks having the same problem. I panicked and we even went to the visitor services counter to try to book a taxi. I think I will panicked completely if I was there alone, especially when the sun sets and it gotten pretty cold. Waiting outside the cold is no joke.
It’s definitely way easier to explore LA if you know how to drive…

I don’t deny that I booked a flight to LA because of soondubu. Haha, I first discovered from Uber Eats back in my 2022 trip. I had an epic incident back in 2022 which I don’t think I blogged about it earlier. Anyway, the tldr is that I really love the seafood soondubu that I wanted to come back again in 2023. So here I am!
Thankful that Gulabi joined me for lunch so we can order more food this time to share.
So the story back in 2022 is that I took an Uber to Santa Monica Pier to take sunset photos then I went to the Tofu-Ya restaurant back public bus. Then somehow I decided to take public train back to my hotel at night. It was like 8pm or 9pm so it was quite late for someone to stay out late. I walked passed by under a bridge and saw many tents of homeless people and 1 homeless guy. It freaked me out and I was texting my colleagues on WhatsApp. I regretted and should have taken an Uber back. :/
I reached the train station and missed my train. The train station at that time had 4 guys and it was fortunate that it was overhead station. It was feeling a bit unsafe to take Uber from the streets near the station especially when I saw a police car just parking there to monitor and some homeless people at the streets too. The area around seems dark and unsafe too. The train station seems the safest around the area too.
Anyway, I stood near the Chinese guy who seems to be the most normal one in the station and made it back to the hotel safely. Somehow West LA felt more unsafe than Downtown LA. What an irony.

Gulabi found this cafe online but I don’t remember where is it exactly. I know it is within walking distance from our hotel at Santa Monica. The drinks are so-so but the croissants are amazing. Almond croissant is really very tasty!

I went to Flower Dome with Rui Yun last month and visit their seasonal exhibition- Impressions of Monet. I have to admit that I am making use of my Flower Dome membership more now that I am back with my friends who are basically at the same level and have similar interests as me. Haha. I used to think why am I not using the membership as much when I was with my ex-boyfriend. Turns out that it is a sign that we are simply not compatible and he was too toxic in my life to cause me to slowly lose happiness. Slow burn is hard to detect until you are completely out of it and reflect back. 🙂
Anyway, I am loving this exhibition! It is basically about the artist Monet who is in the impressionistic era. Yes, you heard it right, exactly the era of paintings that I love the most. They also displayed a few of his paintings too.
