I went for my violin class yesterday and managed to try out a new violin and learned about how to pick violins suitable for myself. No plans to change violin though but there is a new violin for sale so I managed to try it. I can feel my current violin looking at me aggressively when I tried the other violin. Jealousy violin is a real thing hahaha. Or just violin mum guilt?

Anyway, it was a mellow sounding violin that was over 200 years old. Apparently her friend got it for her kids for $21,000. I think it should be in Singapore dollars. She is moving house and is selling it for $15,000 now. My teacher let me try it and see how I feel about it. I played the Beethoven Romance in F first movement for the first few bars and didn’t like how depressing it sounds. It makes me feel emotional too. Then I requested to try it again to play Schumann Fantasiestucke in first movement and it sounded better. I played the first few bars and I can still feel the depressed feeling from playing the violin. Then somewhere in the middle of the piece it felt better. However, the A string still sounded quite off to me. I still love my current violin which has a brighter sound and I don’t need to use too much power to play it. However, it is quite an experience to play a mellow sounding violin for the first time. Can really feel the emotions from playing the violin.

As it is my first time playing the violin, it felt quite unfamiliar to me. I gained back the familiar feeling from my violin after I resumed playing on my violin. It feels as if my violin has a sense of familiarity. She knows when I will panic in some parts of the pieces and it will try her best to help me get past the difficult passages in the music.

I don’t think I will change my violin but I do hope to get more involved in music performances in future. My violin is not being used as often as previously and it’s a sad thing.

My teacher told me a lot of professionals love to use mellow sounding violin as it gives character and can help to tone down the strength of the violin sound since the professionals usually play very strongly. My style is not that strong/loud so a brighter violin works well for me.

I had a catch up with one of my colleagues after a long time over lunch on Friday and she was sharing about renovation for her current place as well as properties in general. I went to Ashley’s place for dinner catchup on Friday evening and we were talking about property investment in Indonesia, India and Singapore. I went to Lynn’s housewarming on Saturday afternoon and again, the topic on properties came up again.

Wow, have I reached the age whereby it is normal and very common to talk about properties or am I just attracting the same topic again and again? Hmm…

I guess… Welcome to the new era where every social gathering will cover the topic of property and asset accumulation? Lololol.

That’s also when you know you really is becoming older… I also noticed that I enjoyed just chit chatting with friends over a simple meal at their homes or just one of the homes. No need to go fancy cafe or anything to chat unlike in the past…

I went to visit Hyundai Innovation Centre when I went to Na Oh restaurant for lunch with Zi Jian. Well, he brought me around for an unofficial tour since he works in Hyundai. Definitely a good catch up. I received tips on how to take care of the house and housework tips.

He invited me to see his temporary home as he is currently staying with his inlaws. It’s a really nice dual key condo apartment at a high floor with really good city view of Singapore.

It was also my first time seeing how a robot vacuum is running. Quite impressed by it and I’m excited to be getting one in future. 😀

There’s a new Korean restaurant opened in Singapore recently and it is also fine dining style. It’s like $78++ for a 4-course meal if I remember correctly and wow, it is worth every penny.

However, it was very difficult to book and you have to book 1 month in advance and at midnight. I didn’t manage to but I’m glad that my friend, Zijian, was able to. Furthermore as a Hyundai employee, he gets 20% discount since the restaurant is located at the Hyundai Innovation Centre. So with GST and service fees, each person only pay around $70ish for the meal. Even awesome lah. 😀

I ordered samgyetang for my main course and Zijian ordered the fish. It was very nice. One of the course meals has something made with beef stock which I can’t have it so they replaced it with something vegetarian. That’s quite nice of them. Well, it is fine dining after all.

I didn’t manage to take a photo of the samgyetang when they bring the pot over and explained to me. I’m in deep regret over it. 🙁 Does that mean I need to go back again? It’s quite hard to book for the meal and it’s also difficult to get there too. Oh well…

I went to Night Festival with Eunice and Rui Yun this year. It was a good catch up with them as we share our life updates. Just like old friends, we had dinner at a food court before we had Chagee (my first time trying ever since they came back to Singapore recently!) and exploring some of the exhibits at Night Festival 2024.
